Mexico City Metro overpass collapse
SYSTRA sends its condolences to the families of the victims of this tragic accident and its best wishes for the recovery of those injured.
We confirm that SYSTRA was not involved in the design or supervision of the construction of line 12 of the Mexico City metro.
Following the deterioration of the track, which led to the suspension of commercial services on a section of line 12 from March 2014, SOBSE (Secretaria de Obras y Servicios de la ciudad de Mexico) commissioned SYSTRA to carry out an expert assessment to determine the causes of the deterioration. This assessment identified a problem of rail-wheel contact. The conclusions were submitted to the client in August 2014 in the form of a report recommending repair works on the track, the implementation of which SYSTRA monitored. These works did not involve the structure of the line’s viaducts.
We are at the disposal of the authorities to provide any useful information for the investigation.
