SYSTRA’s scope of work for said project was to assess the viability of a joint LRT1 – MRT3 – MRT7 station in the vicinity of the EDSA/North Avenue intersection, thereby eliminating the need to build two stations to comply with the complexities of the concession agreements signed for the MRT7 and LRT1 South Extension Projects.
The common LRT1-MRT3 station is to be located some 350 meters north of the current MRT 3 North EDSA Station, and is linked to the MRT 7 project along North Avenue via a walkable atrium area. SYSTRA’s task was to prepare the preliminary designs for this Grand Central Station; this task involved the following sub-tasks:
- Input data on topography, utilities, existing buildings/structures and any other constraints to consider
- Functional design
- Conceptual interconnection with other station and commercial developments
- Preliminary turnback facilities and corresponding track layout
- Total floor area of concourse and platform
- Assessment of viaduct extension requirements
- Assessment of track modifications (if applicable)
- Assessment of impact to signaling system
- Preliminary costing based on current industry practice
